I would have never watched this if it wasn’t for my cousin who recommended it to me when it came out. I finally finished it and wow. A beautiful anime filled with excellent characters, visuals, and story. I recognized some voice actors off hand, the one Zach Aguilar (Tanjiro of Demon Slayer, Genos of One Punch Man), and the voice of Giancarlo Esposito (Gus, Breaking Bad, Moff Gidien). It was strange at first hearing the voice of Tanjiro curse like a sailor on the show (show rated M), but the voice fit the character.
A quick summary of the show per good ole Wikipedia: In a dystopia overrun by corruption, crime, and cybernetic implants, an impulsive but talented street kid named David Martinez, after losing everything he has in a drive-by shooting, makes the choice to survive on the wrong side of the law as an edgerunner; a high-tech, black-market mercenary also known as a “cyberpunk”.
Each episode is only about 30 mins but each episode is worth a watch. Getting to know David and the rest of the edgerunners was filling. The animation was beautiful and something I feel like as far as story the video game tries to do. But didn’t get right, at least from what I’ve heard from others who played the game.
I understand when the video game came out it had its issues but since the release of the anime on Netflix there was a rise of users playing Cyberpunk again. One could even say helped revive a dying video game. Now with news of a sequel video game coming one I can’t help but think the anime played a big part.
I too admit now I want to play the game and funny thing is I do have the game just never played it and now I truly want to explore this video game universe. I highly recommend this anime for those who are looking for a good quick short story and maybe if you, like myself, haven’t played the game, might make you want to grab the game as well. So far it’s only one season and I do hope they create a sequel or another story in this beautiful world of, Cyberpunk Edgerunners Anime.
