Death Note Part 1

So I (Rico) finally watched the highly rated Death Note! After almost 20 years of the anime being out I finally watched it. I know, I know where have I been. Well I did watch it and there is a lot to discuss. But first for those who have not watched and maybe want to know “What is Death Note?” or “I’ve heard of it, but why is it good?” then this Part 1 post is for you. I really want to give it a great description and hopefully for those who have not seen it, give it a chance after reading this.

Death Note is an anime that captured the hearts of many viewers around the world. A top10 or even top 5 and maybe the best anime out there to some. The show follows a high school student named Light Yagami who discovers, but really a God of Death Shinigomi named Ryuk drops it for him, a mysterious notebook that allows him to kill anyone whose name he writes in it. The show quickly became a fan favorite due to its gripping plot, complex characters, and thought-provoking themes.

One of the things that made Death Note so great was its well-developed characters. Light is a complex and fascinating character who is constantly battling his own morality as he attempts to become a god-like figure named Kira. L is a mysterious and brilliant detective who is constantly trying to catch Light in the act. The interactions between these two characters are intense and always keep the viewer on the edge of their seat, especially me.

The show also tackles some heavy themes such as morality, justice, and power. At least for me there were several thought provoking scenes or some of those “what would you do” in that situation moments. It explores the idea of absolute power and whether or not it is ever okay to take the law into your own hands. The show doesn’t shy away from these tough topics and instead tackles them head-on, making for a truly thought-provoking viewing experience.

The animation in Death Note is also something to marvel at. The show’s use of light and shadow is particularly noteworthy, and the attention to detail in each scene is impressive. The show’s art style is unique and captivating, and it perfectly captures the dark and brooding tone of the show. Please note this animation was made back in 2006, so the animation for that time was stellar.

Another thing that sets Death Note apart is its musical score. The show’s opening and closing theme songs perfectly capture the tone of the show, and the soundtrack is both haunting and beautiful if that makes any sense. The music adds an extra layer of depth to the show, making it a truly captivating experience.

In conclusion, Death Note is a must-watch for anyone who loves anime or just great storytelling in general. Its complex characters, thought-provoking themes, stunning animation, and captivating score make it a standout show that is sure to leave a lasting impression on any viewer.

How are video games made?

I remember when I was young and still curious to this day. I asked myself how are video games are made. It can be a long process, but after some research I’ll try to break down the process to a brief blog.

The process of making a video game starts with an idea. This could be a concept for a new game, or an improvement on an existing one. There are lots of those and sometimes we don’t point them out. The developers then create a storyline, characters, and levels for the game.

Next, the design team creates sketches and drawings to show what the characters, locations, and objects in the game will look like. They also decide on the colors, sounds, and music that will be used in the game. Imagine hiring all these different people to help create a game. You know if you like making music maybe sent a publisher one of your tracks maybe they’ll use it in a game?

Once the design is complete, the programming team takes over. They use special software to write the code that makes the game work. This includes everything from making the characters move and jump, to making sure the game is challenging but also fun to play. Except for the for the programmers of Dark Souls those guys wanna see you suffer lol.

Finally, the game is tested and refined. The developers make sure everything is working properly and fix any bugs they find. They also listen to feedback from players to see if there are any improvements that can be made.

That’s a simple overview of how video games are made. With the help of creative minds, advanced technology, and a lot of hard work, video games have become a billion dollar industry now, and as long as someone has an idea, video games will continue to be created for everyone to enjoy!

Why Video Games Are Good

Video games can have many benefits for children including improving cognitive skills, enhancing creativity, building social skills, improving mood, and encouraging learning. Video games can improve hand-eye coordination, (sports games) problem-solving, (RPG games) abilities, and decision-making skills. They can also provide opportunities for virtual exploration(video game worlds, minecraft and such), creativity, teamwork, communication, and critical thinking. Many video games can also teach children specific skills such as math, science, or history (Assassins Creed games). It is important to note that not all video games are suitable for children, and parents should monitor the content and play time of their children. Video games can be a valuable addition to a child’s overall development when used in moderation and in conjunction with other forms of entertainment and educational activities.

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order

It has been some time since I completed this game and recieved another Playstation trophy. However I do need to put in a review for the game. Here we go!

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a game that takes you on a thrilling adventure in the Star Wars universe. I think you’ll love the fast-paced action and the chance to wield a lightsaber like a true Jedi.

The game’s story follows Cal Kestis, a young Jedi who has been in hiding since the events of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and the final episodes of Star Wars Clone Wars. Cal is on the run from the Empire and its deadly Inquisitors, and must learn the ways of the Force to survive.

One of the best things about the game is the combat system. As a Jedi, you’ll have access to a variety of lightsaber moves and Force powers, which you can use to take down enemies in epic battles. The combat is challenging and requires a good amount of skill and timing, but it’s also very satisfying when you pull off a cool move.

The game’s graphics are also stunning, with detailed character models and beautiful environments that transport you to the Star Wars universe. The game also features a lot of exploration, allowing you to discover new areas and secrets as you progress through the story.

Overall, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a must-play for fans of the Star Wars franchise and anyone who loves action-adventure games. It’s a thrilling adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat and make you feel like a true Jedi.

Game of the Year: Elden Ring

Elden Ring, the highly-anticipated action RPG from the creators of Dark Souls, has officially been named Game of the Year at the Game Award shows back in December. A well deserved win, and much kudos to, in my opinion, a very close second to God of War: Ragnarok.

One of the cool things about Elden Ring is that it’s made by the same people who created the popular game series “Dark Souls.” This means that the game will be challenging and exciting, and you’ll have to use your skills and wits to overcome obstacles and defeat enemies. This is not your standard adventure game, get ready to be challenged!

Elden Ring also has a co-op mode, so you can play with your friends and help each other out on your journey. You can also customize your character and choose from different weapons and armor to make them stronger.

One of the most exciting parts of Elden Ring is the story. The game is set in a world called “The Lands Between” where the player will have to uncover the secrets of the Elden Ring, an ancient artifact that holds immense power.

Overall, Elden Ring is a game that truly deserves the title of Game of the Year. It offers a challenging and rewarding gameplay experience, a rich and compelling story, and a beautiful and immersive world. It’s a must-play for fans of action RPGs and anyone looking for an unforgettable gaming experience. Who is up for the challenge? Who will win this years Game of the Year?

The Last of Us TV Series

The highly-anticipated TV series adaptation of the popular video game “The Last of Us” is finally here, and fans of the game and newcomers alike are in for a treat. The series, which will air on HBO, is set to explore the world of the game in greater depth and bring the characters to life in a whole new way. I for one am very excited, and am sure I’ll be having some nostalgic moments.

“The Last of Us” is set in a post-apocalyptic world where most of humanity has been wiped out by a fungal infection. The story follows Joel, a hardened survivor, and Ellie, a young girl with a mysterious immunity to the infection, as they navigate the dangers of the new world and form a powerful bond. The game, which was released in 2013, was praised for its emotional storytelling, complex characters, and stunning visuals.The show will feature an all-star cast, including Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie.

Based on other reviews (since I don’t have the privilege to screen the show early) the TV series is also expected to raise some moral dilemmas, as well as to show the complicated and harsh reality of the post-apocalyptic world, where the rules of survival are different and where human beings are pushed to their limits. This show sounds like its not going to be your regular “post-apocalyptic” show.

Overall, the “The Last of Us” TV series is shaping up to be a must-watch for fans of the game, as well as for anyone who loves gripping storytelling and complex characters. With its all-star cast and talented team behind the scenes, this series is sure to be a hit. This is my “too-early” pick for Emmy nominated show, you heard it here first. Cheers my friends!

Level 2023

As we say goodbye to 2022 and welcome in 2023, it’s a time for reflection and a time for setting new goals. The start of a new year is always an opportunity to hit the reset button and start fresh.

Looking back on the past year, it’s impossible to ignore the challenges and difficulties that many of us faced due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It has been a trying time for everyone, and we have all had to make sacrifices and adapt to a new way of living. But through it all, we have also seen the resilience and strength of our gaming communities and the human spirit.

As we enter this new year, we can take the lessons we have learned and use them to shape our future. We can focus on what is important, prioritize our mental and physical well-being, and strive to make positive changes in our own lives and in the world around us.

2023 is a year of opportunity and potential. It’s a chance to set new goals, both big and small, and work towards achieving them. Whether it’s starting a new hobby, learning a new skill, or traveling to a new place, let’s make the most of this new year.

It’s also a time to come together and support each other. We’ve all been through a lot, and it’s important to remember that we are not alone. Let’s continue to lean on one another and lift each other up as we navigate this new year.

As we enter 2023, let’s approach it with hope, positivity, and a renewed sense of determination. Here’s to a year of growth, success, and making memories. Happy New Year! and Game on!

Celeste Review

An inspirational Climb

It is a known fact that I’m late to the indie games genre. It never really peaked my interest, always though they were low budget and low quality games. Little bit at a time I’ve given indie game a chance. Which is the subject of today’s review with Celeste. Without giving too much of the story, you take on the role of Madeleine, a young woman with a mission, to climb Celeste Mountain. In the beginning you’re told about how high the mountain is and how it’s useless to try, having no experience in mountain climbing. That does not deter Madeleine’s resolve, she’s willing to see this through. Madeleine is a special kind of person and player, she’s open about her doubt about climbing Celeste Mountain and her anxiety on meeting new people. The gameplay is also where the game shines, a trial and error style of gameplay, quick reloads definitely keeps your pace high on this adventure. A pure and precise plat-former, with a double jump like ability, a little mistake could cause you to reload to the nearest checkpoint. There are plenty of collectibles to collect with the Strawberries being one I would recommend acquiring when you can. Accompanying you on your journey is an excellent soundtrack, keeping the journey on a high note. Celeste is an incredible tale I didn’t think I could relate to so clearly and compassionately. Celeste is a landmark on what a game should do to you when you play it, have an emotional connection to it. And now more than ever, I’m finally a fan of indie games thanks to Celeste.

Silent Hill 2 Review

Revisiting a Classic.

It has been over 20 years since Silent Hill 2 original release date back 2001. I just so happen to come across this game at Game Crazy, which are now all gone. I saw it and looked at the back of the game box and was intrigued by what I read. Our protagonist James Sunderland‘s life is shattered when his beloved wife Mary passes away. Three years later James receives a mysterious letter from his late wife Mary, beckoning him to return to their special place, Silent Hill. This alone was enough for me to pick it up, and ever since, has been one of my favorite games. Twenty years later and this story is still great to experience again. You are given a map and free to explore where you can go, the game does not help you too much. It’s up to you to find your way and to figure out the complex puzzles your will encounter on your journey. Graphically, yes, it has aged but incredibly it holds up remarkably well. Gameplay holds up mostly well enough, some of the camera angels may get annoying but the atmosphere of the game eases this issue. The sound design for Silent Hill 2, is still creepy all these years later. With the incredible soundtrack by the legendary Akira Yamaoka, compliments every cutscene and environment you’ll encounter. Developer Team Silent really outdid themselves and should be remembered for doing so. I honestly thought replaying a twenty year old game would have been tough, but Silent Hill 2 is an example of a game that transcends generation after generation in gaming. To this day, now, I do recommend playing Silent Hill 2, especially if it’s your first time.

PhantomRicon: Awesome and welcome! Let’s get started. Your gametag name. How did you come up with that name? 

Elway68: I have a few gamer tags. My gamer I try to stick with for everything from COD to fortnite and other games is El_way68. I came up with the name while setting up my ps3. I had that’s 70 show going in the back. It was the episode where Kelso was talking about the El Camino. And tells Jackie it’s an El Camino that’s Spanish for the Camino. That’s when I thought I can make something from this. 

PhantomRicon: Awesome story on how you got your Game tag name. For my next question, what game are you currently playing? 

Elway68: I’m currently playing neon abyss and my name is mayo. And thinking about replaying stray to finish collecting all the trophies. 

PhantomRicon: Oh nice! Heard a lot of good things about Stray. What video game character (from any game) would you want to be?

Elway68: Oh man, this one is a tough one. There’s a lot of games I’d like to be a part of. 
But off the top of my head, I would have to go with Mario or Luigi. Just because I’d love to explore the mushroom kingdom.

PhantomRicon: Classic. Can’t go wrong with that. What is a popular game everyone loves but you dislike?

Elway68: I can’t think of a game I dislike. But I will say I am not a fan of scary creepy type games. Fear is an emotion I don’t pay for. I’ll give them a try, but if it gets to crazy “Germayn out  🎤 “

PhantomRicon: Gotta give the scary games a try again. What got you into playing video games?

Elway68: What got me into gaming was hanging out with friends. Like when I would go see my grandma in Mexico. I would go with some friends to the local arcade and play. And here spending hours or the night at friends houses. And staying up late playing games like Mario racing, Mario party or 007. It was always a good fun time.

PhantomRicon: Sounds like a fun time, and finally what about plans for the future? Games to play? Or future of your gaming/social media page? Etc

Elway68: Future plans are trying to upgrade my current gaming setup from laptop to an actual PC. So I could possibly start streaming or doing collaboration streaming with some of the Unsung Gamers. Not sure about my social media pages yet. Will probably just post random things on it.
